UPB Update week of 5-1-11

United Parish of Bowie

United in Christ – Our Mission: To Serve

Presbyterian Church (USA) and United Church of Christ

The Journey Toward Sunday

Thank you to everyone who put in time and effort to make the Holy Week Services so moving and meaningful!  It was great to see so many of you and I hope that everyone will continue to celebrate the Easter Season!

This weekend we've got multiple opportunities to serve as we may be led:

-          The United Campus Ministry at College Park is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and Benefit Concert tonight (April 29th) I'd encourage you to attend if you are able to learn about the impact they're making at UMD and to support the ministry there.

-          Christmas in April is Tomorrow!  Thanks to everyone who's planning to go make a difference in the living conditions for a local woman.

There are also multiple opportunities to minister to the children youth and families of the church and community:

-          The SEEDs (midweek family program) Silly Song Spring Session started last Wednesday and will continue for the next 4 Wednesdays.  Please let Rebecca H know if you and your family are planning to participate and also if you can help support the ministry by providing food.

-          UPB's first Art and Music Camp is scheduled for July 25-29.  We're still in need of adult volunteers to come, shepherd the kids through various stations of Art, Music, Drama and Games centered around the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22.  If you're interested in helping to plan, please come to the meeting after church this Sunday.  If you're interested in volunteering for the week, please contact Rebecca H.

And of course there are opportunities for fellowship and spiritual development as well

-          I'm leading a new Adult Education course starting this Sunday before church: Theology 101 (part 1) to meet 9:45-10:45 now through June 5 (except May 15)

-          Men's Breakfast at Bob Evans in Bowie 7:45am Tuesday this week

-          Prayer Group will meet at 7:00pm at my house on Tuesday

-          Book Club meets one week from today.  The book is scheduled to be Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua

This Sunday's scripture readings can be found here.  We'll be focusing in on the gospel reading from John, and also reading the passage from 1 Peter.  I'd invite you to read through the scriptures and pray with as much as you can to prepare yourself for Easter!

Prayer Requests:  Jim's back at home after a month in the hospital and nursing facility.  Thanks be to God!  And Rebecca Y-G's Dad is at Larkin Chase.  He would appreciate prayers and, if you're able to visit, he'd appreciate that too!

As always, if you want to look further out on the calendar, the website is a great resource.  And feel free to get in touch with me regarding your hopes, dreams, and ideas for the future of UPB, or to let me know about other things that are going on in your life.

Happy Easter (Yes, He's still risen indeed!),

Pastor Dan
