UPB Update week of 4-3

United Parish of Bowie

United in Christ – Our Mission: To Serve

Presbyterian Church (USA) and United Church of Christ

The Journey Toward Sunday

Hi everyone, I hope things are going well for you this week.  It's hard to imagine it's April tomorrow... where does the time go?

Every week they sing, I am grateful for our Choir.  I know they have put a ton of effort into making this Sunday's cantata a great one!  I'm excited and hope everyone can come!  (Feel free to invite friends as well.)

Thank you again to everyone who made it out last Saturday to help out in the Spring clean up day around church!  And thanks also to the people who gathered proposals for the parking lot.  Last week at the congregational meeting the motion to allocate money to move forward with the paving project passed and I think having it paved will make it easier for visitors and regulars alike!  If you want to be a part of the decision making processes for the rest of the project, let Becky know or come to the meeting (TBA).

Last night at the Lenten Dinner, we had a very interesting and informative talk from the Executive Director of the Prince George County Family Crisis Center.  We've been providing a meal on a monthly basis for the Crisis Center for 20 years and it was good to hear about where that organization has been, who they serve and what their hopes are for the future.  Next week's for the Lenten Dinner, Josi will be telling us about his work with the Sarojini Orphanage Trust in India and Indonesia.

The book club meets this Friday at the Barbato home.  They're reading The Uncommon Reader.  Men's Breakfast is next Tuesday at the Bowie Bob Evans.

This week the service will be built around "Covenant of Grace" the cantata by Joe Martin and a variety of scripture readings will be woven throughout.  So instead of giving you the lectionary passages to pray with this week, here are the 4 most important covenants that God makes with people in the Bible.  I'd invite you to pray with them to prepare yourselves for worship on Sunday:  Genesis 9:8-17,  Genesis 17:1-8, Exodus 6:1-8, Mark 14:22-25.

There are a few prayer requests and updates:  Jim has been moved to a nursing home for rehab, Robin's back in Philly for treatment, Elsie's husband John is at AAMC and the Ndonue family called this week to ask us to keep Fred and the family in our prayers, so when you're in a praying mood, please remember all of those folks.  And for those of you who remember Helen Peck fondly and would like to make a donation in memoriam, I was asked to remind you of her wishes that remembrances be made to: the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals/Humane Society (SPCA/HS) of Prince George's County at P.O. Box 925, Bowie, MD  20718.

As always, if you want to look further out on the calendar, the website is a great resource.  And feel free to get in touch with me regarding your hopes, dreams, and ideas for the future of UPB, or to let me know about other things that are going on in your life.

May God's peace be with you,

Pastor Dan
