The Journey Toward Sunday
Hi everyone, I hope things are going well for you this week. I'm looking forward to the first of the Lenten Dinner Series this evening. If you are still deciding whether to come and you get this in time, I do hope you will make it.
I wanted to make sure everyone knows that there will be a congregational meeting on March 27th immediately following the worship service to decide whether to pursue paving the parking lot at this time. The Ministry Support Committee, as part of their charge to maintain the buildings and grounds of the church, has received bids from 4 companies (the dollar figures range from almost $32,000 to almost $38,000). We'll have an informational meeting and discussion forum after church this Sunday (the 20th) to give everyone an opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns before the decision is made. You are also welcome to talk with me, any Board member or Ministry Support Committee Member for more info.
Tuesday next week (the 22nd) we're trying out a new location for Men's night out Dinner, come out to TJ Elliot'S (6814 Laurel-Bowie Rd) for an evening of food and fellowship!
This Friday (the 18th)is the Ladies night out… I'll be forwarding an invitation to the Ladies of the church shortly… if you don't get it and should, it's an error in my list… let me know and I'll fix it!
And of course this Saturday at the church we will be hosting a memorial service for Helen Peck who was a faithful member of this church for a long time. She will be missed!
Prayer requests: Keep the Peck family in your prayers as they mourn Helen's passing. Jim L. is in the hospital (AAMC) with pneumonia- he expects to be there at least till Friday and perhaps through the weekend. He said he would welcome visitors. And of course on the global scene, keep the people of Japan in your prayers in the wake of their unimaginable tragedy.
This scripture readings for this week's service can be found here. (We'll be reading God's promise to Abram from Genesis and Paul's understanding of righteousness, grace and law from Romans ) I'd invite you to take a few minutes to and pray with the scriptures to prepare yourself for worship on Sunday!
If you want to look further out on the calendar, the website is a great resource. And as always, feel free to get in touch with me regarding your hopes, dreams, and ideas for the future of UPB, or to let me know about other things that are going on in your life.
May God bless you in this Lenten Season,
Pastor Dan
